School board sets fees for 2006-07

The Paynesville Area School Board took the following actions at their meeting on Tuesday, July 11.

*The board approved a fee schedule for the 2006-07 school year. (See box.)

Fee Schedule *The board approved amending its crisis management plan, which was approved in May. Due to new state legislation, the district is now required to perform five mock lockdowns, five fire drills, and one tornado drill each year, instead of nine fire drills and one lockdown.

*The board approved hiring Kristen Woefel as a special education teacher for the 2006-07 school year.

*The board approved hiring Polly Jager, who currently is a paraprofessional in the middle school, to replace Linda Mayer as elementary administrative assistant, starting in October. Mayer will become the district office administrative assistant when Donna Ahrens retires later this fall.

*The board approved a two-year contract with Community Educ-ation director Matt Dickhausen, which calls for a 9.487 percent increase over two years.

*The board approved the resignation of Keri Hatlevig, a high school health and physical education teacher. The district has already started a search for a replacement.

*The board approved membership in the Minnesota State High School League for the 2006-07 school year.

*The board approved participating in the state and national school lunch programs for the 2006-07 school year.

*The board authorized superintendent Todd Burlingame and/or his designee to purchase and sell investments during the 2006-07 school year.

*The board designated four supplemental bank depositories for the 2006-07 school year.

*The board authorized the district bookkeeper, payroll specialist, administrative assistant, and superintendent to sign petty cash checks during the 2006-07 school year.

*The board approved advertising for bids for dairy and bakery products for the 2006-07 school uear.

*The board approved membership with Resource Training and Solutions for the 2006-07 school year. *The board approved membership in Schools for Equity in Education for the 2006-07 school year.

*The board designated the Paynesville Press as the district's official newspaper for the 2006-07 school year.

*The board approved a health and safety program plan for the 2006-07 school year. The plan includes 11 small health and safety projects to be fixed this summer.

*The board approved the 2005-06 annual report - presented by elementary school principal Deb Gillman, who also serves as the district's curriculum coordinator - on curriculum, instruction, and student achievement.

*The board announced that its closed meeting in June was held to discuss the yearly evaluation of Burlingame.
