Paynesville Press - July 19, 2006
All-school reunion to be held this weekend |
An all-school reunion will be held on Friday, July 21, and Saturday, July 22, sponsored by the "Keep the Quality" Education Foundation. This is the first all-school reunion for Paynesville since May 1992. On Friday, July 21, three Distinguished Alumni Awards will be given to Hub Schwandt (Class of 1939), Peter and Lynne (LeMasurier) Jacobson (Classes of 1961 and 1962), and Susan (Hendrickson) Warner (Class of 1969) at the American Legion. All alumni are welcome to attend the banquet with social hour at 6 p.m.; dinner at 7 p.m.; and ceremony at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, available at the Press, and $15 at the door. Alumni who signed up in advance will be listed as paid. An all-class social will follow at the Legion. School tours - of Paynesville Area Elementary School, Paynesville Area Middle School, and Paynesville Area High School - will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Lunch ($5) will be served in the high school cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Again, a list of alumni who signed up for the lunch will be kept at the cafeteria. Classes can gather on the school grounds - a tent for shade will be erected on the practice football field - and visit. An iMovie about the Paynesville schools, created by recent grad Shawn Reinke, will run in the auditorium. Informal volleyball and softball games can be played. A silent auction of old trophies (by the Bulldog Booster Club) will last from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Selected old trophies have been declared surplus property by the school district - due to a lack of storage space - and will be sold in a silent auction. Proceeds go to supporting PAHS athletic programs. A group picture of all the alumni at the all-school reunion will be taken at 2:45 p.m. Also on Saturday, Pat Jones (Class of 1962) will show her artwork at the Blessing Well Gallery in downtown Paynesville from 1-3 p.m. Another all-class social is planned for Saturday night at Queen Bee's Bar and Grill in downtown Paynesville. Sunday was meant for formal and informal alumni and class celebrations. The Class of 1976 will meet at Veteran's Memorial Park at 1 p.m. for a family picnic. Also, more historical information about the Paynesville area and schools is available at the Paynes-ville Area Historical Museum on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
