Local youth perform two plays |
Two plays were presented by Paynesville Community Education's summer theater last week: "The Wizard of the Mall" and "Woolfie" were put on by 21 area youth in the high school auditorium. "The Wizard of the Mall" spoofed The Wizard of Oz, centering around a trip to the mall by Dorothy and her bunny FuFu. A revolving door knocked Dorothy unconscious and killed the wicked sales clerk of the East Mall. A good sales clerk assisted Dorothy on her way to Marshall Field's, along with her three traveling companions: Burnout, who needed new brain cells; Security Guard, who needed a heart; and The Nerd, who needed courage. "Woolfie," one of two plays performed by the summer theater program last week, has an unusual courtroom trial during which Wesley Ford, playing Baby Bear, is taunted by Kristine Hoeft, the lawyer. "Woolfie" blended Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Little Pigs, and Goldilocks into a court trial where Woolfie defended himself against accusers testifying that he had blown down houses and gobbled up young girls. The play featured audience participation, a surprise witness, and an unexpected ending.
