Each month, teachers recognize three students in the middle school - one per grade - for their attention and work in school and their cooperation and relations with other students and the school staff.

These are the last three winners for the 2003-04 school year.

Lien said he was humbled and pleased when he learned he had won the award. Van Eck said he was excited to get the award. And Quade was proud and happy.

Sixth grader McKenzie Quade, seventh grader Alex Van Eck, and eighth grader Dan Lien were chosen as the Students of the Month for May at Paynesville Area Middle School.

Quade, the daughter of Becki and Jerry Quade, sings in the choir, plays in the band, and takes part in summer theater productions through school. She also likes to play softball and volleyball, read, snowmobile, and swim.

She thinks she won the award because she behaves and she keeps up her grades.

Her teachers said that McKenzie is studious, conscientious, hardworking, considerate of others, mature, and has a great attitude.

Van Eck, the son of Don and Rebecca Neu, plays baritone in the band at school and likes to fish and hunt with friends away from school.

He thinks he won the award because he gets good grades and tries his hardest.

His teachers said that Alex is a good student: responsible, respectful, hardworking, and enjoyable in the classroom.

Lien, the son of Lonnie and Ray Lien, plays baseball at school and also likes to play golf and to sleep.

He thinks he won the award because he paid attention in class.

His teachers said that Dan is good student: responsible and hardworking with a good sense of humor.

This school year, 24 students from PAMS were honored as Students of the Month. Sixth grader Jordan Severance, seventh grader Heather Rondeau, and eighth grader Colby Peterson were chosen as Students of the Month in October; sixth grader Kayla Lieser, seventh grader Jamison Wall, and eighth grader Natalie Leadem in November; sixth grader Riley Kampsen, seventh grader Callie Bennett, and eighth grader Keegan Meagher in December; sixth grader Taylor Haag, seventh grader John Buermann, and eighth grader Curt Nietfeld in January; sixth grader Matthew Everson, seventh grader Jackie Berg, and eighth grader Jacob Mackedanz in February; sixth grader Kenzie Meagher, seventh grader Brice Hartmenn, and eighth grader Katrina Daby in March; and eighth grader Kayla Lieser, seventh grader Jasmine Kalkbrenner, and sixth grader Brian Schaefer in April.
