PAHS prom to be held on Saturday, May 3

By Michael Jacobson

Prom at Paynesville Area High School will be held this year on Saturday, May 3.

All juniors and seniors at PAHS are eligible to attend prom, while sophomores may attend only if invited by a junior or senior.

This year's theme is "A Night on the Town."

The annual grand march will be held in the high school gymnasium, starting at 5:30 p.m. Prom goers will enter the high school at the west doors with valet parking being provided. Spectators should enter the school from the north parking lot (by the auditorium and fitness center). Admission is $2, with parents receiving complimentary tickets by mail.

Prom goers will leave by bus around 6:45 p.m. for River Station in Richmond, where they will have dinner (around 7 p.m.), dancing to Billy D. and the Crystals (starting at 8 p.m.), and will have the opportunity for professional pictures.

Prom costs are paid by fund raising by the junior class. Prom advisors this year are Pat Nelson and Colleen Pelton. Juniors on the prom committee are Trista Bork, Gretchen Fenske, Heather Fuchs, Kim Hiltner, Ashley Hoglund, Alicia Kohnen, Jen Terres, and Tricia Wendlandt.

After students return from prom, an after-prom party will be held for the tenth time. The all-night party - started to provide students with a safe alternative on prom night - should start around 12:30 a.m. when students return from the prom. Doors are "locked" and the parents of any student who leaves before 5 a.m. will be called.

The after-prom party includes games in both gymnasiums, around a $20 prize for each attendee, and lots of food, including a malt stand to go along with the 1950s theme of "Shake, Rattle, and Roll."

The after-prom party is separate from the prom. All juniors and seniors - as well as all prom goers - are invited to attend the after--prom party. It is free, and students can sign up in the high school office.

A live comedian will perform in the auditorium, starting around 4 a.m. After that, prizes will be given away, and students should start leaving around 5 a.m.

Parent organizers for the after-prom party this year are: chair DuDonne Andrie; prizes Corrine Lieser and Vicki Jenniges; food Sheryl Fuchs and Cindy Gerding; games Sharon Glenz, Mary Mackedanz, Claudette Nietfeld, Julie Schlangen, and JoAnn Weidner; decorating Gretchen O'Fallon; and security Jim O'Fallon.
