Spring cleanup,household hazardous waste collection coming

Both the Paynesville Area Spring Clean-Up and the household hazardous waste collection will be held on Saturday, April 29, from 8-11 a.m. in the north parking lot (student lot) at Paynesville Area High School.

The spring clean-up will take tires (car, $3; light truck, $4; truck, $15; tractor, $25; and rim, $5); computers (complete system, $25; monitor, $15; towers, $10; keyboards, $2); appliances (washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, TVs, ranges, refrigerators, etc., $17 each); mattresses and box springs, $5 each; plus cardboard, newspaper, office paper, scrap iron, and car and truck batteries. Basic trash (nonrecyclable, nonhazardous, but too large for regular trash) is 5¢ per pound.

The hazardous waste collection will accept: adhesives, aerosols, chemicals, cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, fuels, mercury, paints, poisons, rechargable batteries, roofing tar, and solvents. Agricultural waste, business waste, and medical waste will not be accepted.

Used oil and oil filters can be recycled at any time at the facility in the parking lot of the Koronis Civic Arena (next to the Paynesville Township maintenance garage). This is run by the city of Paynes-ville and Paynesville Township, which also are sponsoring the cleanup and hazardous waste collection on Saturday, April 29, along with Stearns County Environmen-tal Services.
