Speech team takes first again |
The Paynesville Area High School speech team took first place again, among small teams, at the New London-Spicer speech meet on Saturday, capturing first place among small teams for the third straight week. Paynesville scored 120 points to take first among small teams, with Annandale (102 points) taking second. NL-S took first among medium-sized teams, and Sauk Centre took first place among large teams. Sophomore Emily Mehr and senior Sami Tierney both took first place and earned a medal. Mehr captured first place in humorous speech, and Tierney took first in creative expression. Also earning medals for placing in the top three were senior Callie Frieler (in storytelling) and senior Maureen Flanders (in drama). Senior Peter Schreifels and senior Jenn Terres took fourth and seventh respectively in prose, both earning a ribbon. Sophomore Kristi Gale and junior Stacy Lahr both earned team points for Paynesville. The PAHS speech team will compete in subsection competition, also at New London-Spicer High School in New London, on Thursday, March 25, starting at 4:30 p.m.
