Superintendent announces pay freeze to help district

By Michael Jacobson

At the start of the school board meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 26, superintendent Howard Caldwell announced to the board and audience of nearly 50 people that he would take a wage freeze during the 2002-03 school year to help the district.

Caldwell said the budget reduction process in the past two years has been very difficult for the school district and the entire community. "This is my small way to lessen the burden, in a small way," he added. Caldwell's gesture should save the district a couple thousands dollars in 2002-03.

"We appreciate that. Thank you very much," said board chairman Pat Flanders after Caldwell's announcement.
