"The quality of talent is getting better each week," Nelson said. He sang a song he wrote in 1991, "Misty Eyes." This is the ninth year for the talent contests. The top winners are invited back in April.
Four years ago, Nelson was a first place winner with his rendition of "Save This Last Dance For Me."
On Feb. 15, Nelson placed third in a close contest. He missed first place by 1.7 points and missed second place by seven-tenths of a point.
Nelson said people come from all over the state to compete in the contests. The first place winner on Feb. 15 was Marnie Walser of Fairmont and second place went to Justin Lessman of Tracy.
