One-act play takes sixth at sections

By Michael Jacobson

Paynesville Area High School's one-act play finished sixth in sectional competition on Saturday at ACGC.

Delano won the section title with a play called "Mandarin Ducks." Milaca was second, and Foley, the defending section champion, was third.

Other schools competing at sections were Albany, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Lester Prairie, Morris, and Paynesville.

The PAHS drama group qualified for sections by taking second at subsections earlier in February.

This is the first time in nearly 20 years that PAHS has competed in one-act play. The last time the school competed is believed to be in 1982 and 1983.

"Our students, I feel, had a very successful season," said coach Joan Nevitt, who was pleased by their performance in their first year of one-act competition. Her goals for the season were to have fun and gain experience in drama, and she thinks they achieved these.

Paynesville's one-act play was an original script based on a short story, "Spirit of the Seneca."
