The informal town meeting is part of a weekly series Sviggum is holding in cities around the capitol. Discussion may be as a large group or on a more individual basis, depending on the audience. Any issue may be raised. In previous meetings, education, taxes, the budget surplus, and local issues were focuses of discussion.
“These Mainstreet Minnesota town meetings will allow me to get out of the capitol on a weekly basis and talk to people who will be directly impacted by the decisions we make,” said Sviggum. “I will use these contacts to make sure the house never strays too far away from where the public is on important issues like tax cuts and education reform.”
“This is a great opportunity to meet with the people from my district and talk about the issues the Legislature will consider this session,” Stang said. “Plus, it’s a great opportunity for them to meet with Speaker Sviggum.”
According to Stang, the center was chosen because the Legislature will consider several bills this session that will effect seniors.
