Area center holds chili cook-off

The Paynesville Area Center held its third annual chili cook-off on Saturday. This year's chili champion was TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), one of the groups that meet at the center. The TOPS chili, which was actually two chili recipes that were combined, beat reigning champion Paul Oman, whose Lions chili has won the past two years, by just four votes.

chili cook off During the event, the public was encouraged to sample each of the 14 entries and choose their favorite recipe. More than 200 people were on hand for tasting, with 150 ballots cast for the best chili.

Wally and Darlene Thyen are served chili by Lorraine Adams and Carolyn Swyter.
