Human remains were found in an undeveloped lot next to Wal-Mart in Willmar on Tuesday afternoon by a store employee. They were positively identified as Robb Kannenberg on Thursday.

Kannenberg, then 36, had been missing since July 2001 when he walked away from the Willmar Regional Treatment Center, according to Willmar Police Chief Jim Kulset.

The body of Robb Kannenberg - shown in his graduation picture from Paynesville High School in 1983 - was found last week in Willmar. He had been missing since July 2001.

Kannenberg was on a list of missing persons compiled by police after the discovery of the remains, said Kulset. A call from a family member helped identify Kannenberg as a promising candidate, said Kulset, and a positive match was made using dental records.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner told police that the remains showed no signs of trauma, said Kulset. The cause and time of death has yet to be determined. Kulset said the investigation of the case would continue.
