Audrey Bergstrom, 89, Cosmos Audrey A. Bergstrom, 89, of Cosmos and formerly of Paynesville, died on Monday, Sept. 20, at Cedar Crest Assisted Living in Cosmos. A funeral service was held on Thursday, Sept. 23, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the Atwater Union Cemetery. Audrey (Broberg) Bergstrom was born on Aug. 27, 1921, to Carl and Augusta (Mielke) Broberg in Dassel. Audrey grew up in the Dassel area, where she was baptized at Dassel Evangelical Covenant Church in 1922 and confirmed in 1935. She attended elementary school in Dassel and graduated from Dassel High School with the Class of 1939. On June 29, 1940, she married Ted Bergstrom II in Dassel. They moved to a farm near Grove City, where she and Ted farmed. This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. They lived on the farm until they retired in 1977 and moved to Paynesville. Audrey and Ted celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends in 1990. They shared in 59 years of marriage before Ted's death on May 5, 2000. Audrey is survived by her children, Ted Bergstrom III of Sheboygan, Wis., Shirley (Dave) Olson of New London, Richard (Roxann) Bergstrom of Grove City, Kathy (Bill) Oleson of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Bill (Debra) Bergstrom of Grove City; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Bergstrom II; her parents; a daughter-in-law; and her brothers and sisters.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
Lesley Moorhead was born on June 4, 1969, to Donald and Julie Moorhead in Ortonville.
She attended elementary school and high school in Ortonville. She attended the College of Saint CatherineŐs in St. Paul.
Lesley's career involved work with numerous Twin Cities companies in sales and marketing.
She is survived by her mother, Julie Moorhead of Paynesville; sister, Ellen Hansen (Eric Larson) of Hopkins; brothers, Kirk Moorhead of Minneapolis and John (Clare) Moorhead of Colchester, England; two nephews; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald, and her grandparents.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
A memorial service was held on Monday, Sept. 27, at Grace Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was in Grove Cemetery in rural Paynesville.
Myrtle Emma Elizabeth Hoeft was born on March 28, 1918, to Lawrence and Martha (Wendland) Frank in Paynesville. She grew up in Paynesville, where she attended Paynesville High School, graduating in 1935.
On Nov. 25, 1937, Myrtle married Steward Hoeft. To this union, two daughters were born.
They made their home five miles northwest of Paynesville, where they farmed, and she worked at the Paynesville Coop Creamery as a bookkeeper. Together, they were able to share in 57 years of marriage before Steward's death on Sept. 22, 1995.
After Steward's death, Myrtle moved into Paynesville, where she has resided since.
Myrtle is survived by her daughters, June Steman of Blaine and Marie (Dan) Deadrick of Paynesville; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steward; parents; a son-in-law; and brother, Floyd Frank.
A memorial service was held on Monday, Sept. 20, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Inurnment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.
Michael Ray Mayhew was born June 6, 1947, in Albany, Calif., to Charles and Velva Mayhew. He and his family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, at a young age, where he grew up on the family farm.
Growing up, he spent a lot of time fixing up old cars and playing baseball. He graduated from East High School in 1965.
At 18, he was drafted into the army and was stationed in Germany, where he was a demolition specialist.
In 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Lynn Nagel. She joined Mike in Germany, where they lived.
When they returned to the states, Mike attended Western Iowa Tech for mechanical drafting.
Mike and Judy had three children together. He and his family moved to New London in 1981, where they have resided ever since.
Mike was an accomplished draftsmen. He enjoyed designing and making things. He even held patents on some trailer designs. He became very interested in computers, where he turned his passion into a profession. He owned and operated GLC of New London. From 1999-2001, he worked at Procotious Pyrotectics, where he was a pyrotechnic specialist.
Mike is survived by his wife, Judy; three children, Guy (Tanya) of New London, Adam (Angie) of New London, and Heather (Rick) McLain of New London, nine grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Velva, and one brother, Robert.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Hawick. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Myron Charles Hagen was born on Jan. 3, 1930, to Alvin and Myrtle (Hanson) Hagen at the family farm in the Irving Township.
He was baptized and confirmed at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Hawick.
Myron grew up on the family farm. He attended elementary school and graduated from New London High School with the Class of 1947.
On Aug. 23, 1952, Myron was married Marilyn Setterman at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. To this union, three daughters and two sons were born.
Myron and Marilyn took over the Hagen family farm after their marriage. Marilyn passed away in 1998. Together, they shared 46 years of marriage.
On April 10, 1999, Myron married Shirley Duren at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz. They made their home in rural Hawick and wintered in Mesa.
Myron continued to work on the farm with his son until 2005, when they both retired from farming.
Myron is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Chuck (Karla), Blair (Lori), Peggy (Laurie), Janice (Tom), and Susan (Matt); 11 grandchildren; sisters, Mae Seeland and Burnette Wendroth; step children, George (Sandy), Ronald (Mary), Rose, Thomas (Rhonda), Cindy (Gary), Joseph (Patti), and John; 17 step grandchildren; and 17 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn; and parents, Alvin and Myrtle.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Ione was born to Mathias and Eleanor (Hormann) Heinen on Nov. 21, 1944.
She attended elementary school in Roscoe and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1962.
After graduating, she was employed at North American Creamery/egg plant in Paynesville, the St. Cloud Hospital, and Eye Craft.
On Aug. 5, 1972, she was married Glen Heinen at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe. They later divorced.
Ione is survived by her siblings, David (Boni) Heinen of St. Martin, Julie (Ken) Schefers of Paynesville, and Donald (Mary) Heinen of Roscoe and by her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sisters.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 20, at Cedar Valley Church in Bloomington. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Lolita Stenerson was born in Paynesville to Albert and Sadie Bork.
She married Monroe Stenerson in 1949.
Lolita graduated from St. Cloud TeacherŐs College and taught in the Bloomington School District. From cooking to crafting to geneaology, everything was done with passion and pleasure by Lolita.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Norman, and four sisters.
Memorials may be sent to the family or the donorŐs choice.
A private graveside burial will be held at the Paynesville Cemetery.
Audrey Thayer was born on Sept. 2, 1926, to James and Ella (Kelm) Custer in Paynesville.
She married Maurice "Morrie" Thayer on Nov. 12, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Paynesville.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice of Paynesville; four daughters, Jean (Steve) Barthel of Champlin, Beverly (Ted) Oldeen of Atoka, Okla., Rite (George) Garrobo of Webster, Texas, and Mary (Desmond) Kelly of Sherman, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Wanda Vadner of Paynesville.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 12, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was in Salem Cemetery.
George Farnum was born on Jan. 8, 1922, to Milo and Muriel (Anderson) Farnum in Paynesville.
He graduated from Paynesville High School in 1941.
He excelled in industrial arts. He worked as an aircraft mechanic on the west coast, after which he joined the U.S. Navy during WWII.
In the navy, he traveled on the Ohio River and served on a LST, landing on Normandy Beach on day two.
George married Mae E. Gess on June 8, 1943, at the Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds Chapel.
After his discharge, he returned to Paynesville and worked in Hawick as a diesel operator for the Rural Cooperative Power Association (UPA) for 40 years before the facility was closed down. Concurrently, he was a plumber in the Paynesville area and continued that all of his life, giving plumbing instructions within a week of his passing.
George is survived by one son, Kevin (Carlyn) of Delano; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae; parents, Milo and Muriel; and brother, Merlyn "Presh."
