Donald Nepsund, 78, Paynesville Donald Nepsund, 78, of Paynesville died on Monday, Sept. 22, at the Paynesville Area Hospital. A memorial service was held on Friday, Sept. 26, at Paynesville Lutheran Church with military honors. Donald Jerome Nepsund was born on Dec. 23, 1929, to Alexander and Elise (Hanson) Nepsund in Kandiyohi County. Don was baptized and confirmed at Nordland Lutheran, and he graduated from Paynesville High School. He attended Augsburg College, and he was a Korean War Veteran. Don married Judy Wik on April 22, 1962, in Montevideo. They were blessed with two children. Don worked in Minneapolis for a few years before returning to Paynesville to join his dad in constructing homes in the area. The homes he built were the work of a fine craftsman. Don is known in the community, and especially to his family, as a man of honor, honesty, integrity and faithfulness in always going the extra mile for family, friends, and the people he had dealt in business with. Don is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Laura (Mark) Lindeman of Paynesville and Eric (MaryKay) Nepsund of St. Cloud; five grandchildren; sisters, Arlene Ashbaugh of Seattle, Wash., Doris Haskey of Puyallup, Wash., and Molly Lester of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Leona Jahn was born on May 10, 1913, to Frank and Frances (Hartman) Jahn in Paynesville. She graduated from Paynesville High School.
Leona was employed by North American Creameries and Paynesville Produce.
Leona is survived by her sister, Joyce Dilley of Litchfield and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters, Genevieve Welk, Veronica Mayer, Gerald, Geraldine Barthel, and Dolores Sieben.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial will be in the St. Louis Parish Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Joan Kost was born on June 28, 1927, to Arnold G. and Veronica (Jacobs) Kost in Paynesville. She graduated from Paynesville High School and the College of St. Catherine.
After college, she taught English for five years in Maynard and Willmar. Leaving teaching behind, she began work as an office manager in hospitals. From 1956 to 1979, she joined the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth, Kan., continuing hospital work. Most of the rest of her life was working in hospital administration areas in several western states.
After retirement, she returned to Paynesville to help with an aging mother.
Joan is survived by her sisters, Irene (Robert) Schaefer of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mary Kost of Denver, Colo., and Katy (Tom) Lindquist of Paynesville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are preferred.
A memorial service and visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5-7 p.m., at Werness Brothers Funeral Home in Bloomington.
Roberta Meredith was born on Oct. 7, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Cecelia Coffey. She was their only child.
She graduated from Paynesville High School and received her bachelor of nursing from Hamline University and her master's degree in education from St. Thomas University.
She retired from St. Paul Ramsey Hospital after several years of faithful service.
Roberta is survived by her children, Don (Cindy) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Sue (Gene) Blevins of Austin, Texas, and Doug of Lonsdale, Minn.; a daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Cecelia Coffey.
Memorials may be directed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 10:30 a.m., at Zion Irving Lutheran Church in rural Hawick. Burial will be at Roseville Cemetery in Hawick. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 5-7 p.m., at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Joanne Nancy Jones was born on April 19, 1957, to David and Irene (Horky) Jones in Paynesville. She was baptized in 1957 and confirmed in 1973 at Zion Irving Lutheran Church, where she was a member. She grew up and attended elementary school in Paynesville. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1978.
After high school, she lived in several Presbyterian family homes in the Willmar area and worked at the Atwater D.A.C.
Joanne is survived by her siblings, Sandra Kustermann of Maple Grove, Bonnie Lange of Willmar, and Kevin of Gaylord; an aunt; six nieces and nephews; and several cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. Burial was in Manannah Union Cemetery.
Frank Mausehund was born on Jan. 2, 1921, to John and Gertrude Mausehund in Manannah Township.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII for four years and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Frank married Angeline Hommerding on April 8, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. They lived in the Eden Valley area since their marriage.
Frank was a farmer, and he also worked for the Eden Valley Watkins School District for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Angeline of Eden Valley; brother, Walter of Litchfield; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; two nephews; and six nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald; brother, William; and sisters, Irene, Ellen, Florence Hadokwitz, and Anne Harth.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 12, at South Park Cemetery in Roswell.
Norman Mathison was born on Sept. 26, 1920, to Martin and Martha Mathison in Meeker County. They later moved to rural Paynesville, where he attended school and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1938.
He and Alma had shared 62 years of marriage.
Norman was a World War II veteran, who served in the U.S. Navy.
After World War II, Norman worked at Heubner Chevrolet and Laubach Chevrolet, until April 1957, when he started Mathison Chevrolet Co. in Belgrade. He continued in the auto industry until 1983. He also owned a hobby farm south of Brooten that provided a lot of great times for family.
They moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1984 and also spent several years traveling in their motorhome. Their travels took them to all 50 states.
Norman is survived by his wife, Alma of Roswell, children, Nancy (David) Heaslett of Graegle, Calif., Janet Mathison of Spicer, Robert (Sande) of Belgrade, Richard of Roswell, Barry (Kendra) of Roswell; sister, Ruth Everson of Paynesville, brothers, Harold (Norma) of Park Rapids, Walter (Eleanor) of Minneapolis, and Marlowe (Sonia) of San Pedro, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald, and daughter, Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Post 1825 VFW Club are preferred.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial will be in St. Louis Parish Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m., on Wednesday at the church.
Delmar "Buddy" Brossard was born on June 28, 1926, to Oscar and Ida (Liestman) Brossard in Eden Lake Township.
He married Fran Lang on Aug. 11, 1945, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. They were lifelong residents of Paynesville, where he worked as a blacksmith for Alfred Louis, a foreman at Koronis Mill Turkey Farm, for 20 years. He also worked in housekeeping at the Paynesville Area Hospital and at Roger's T.V. Shop.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Fran of Paynesville; children, Roger (Dorothy) of Paynesville, Curtis (Nancy) of Alta Loma, Calif., and Nancy (Herb) Mueller of New London; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Charlotte Weller, Iva Burr, Rose Daniels, Milo, Harold, Idella Stanger, Frances Naumann, and Raymond.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Burial was in South Lake Johanna Lutheran Cemetery in rural Brooten.
Rosella Cornelia Anderson was born on Jan. 18, 1930, to George and Florence Huseth in Brooten. She grew up on a farm outside of Brooten and attended District #4 Pope County School. She graduated from Brooten High School. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Brooten.
On Sept. 17, 1949, she was united in marriage to Stanley Anderson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Brooten. They made their home and raised their family on a farm west of town.
In the early 1970s, Rosella and Stanley moved in to Brooten, where she continued to reside until approximately 10 years ago, when she moved to Paynesville. Their union lasted until Stanley's death in 1985.
Rosella worked various jobs in the area until 1974, when she took a position as an assistant cook at the Brooten Elementary School. From 1987 to 1995, she worked at the school as the head cook.
Rosella is survived by her children, Gary of Brooten, Kenny (Carmen) of Brooten, and Carol (David) Liestman of Paynesville; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous good friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; children, Stephan, James, and Ramona; and one grandchild.
