Virgil Miller, 93, Paynesville
Virgil Miller, 93, of Paynesville died on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 21, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the Paynesville Cemetery.

Virgil Miller was born on Feb. 23, 1915, to Herman and Mary (Stanger) Miller near Paynesville. He grew up on a farm near Paynesville.

He married Edrie Wysong on Sept. 8, 1936, in Howard Lake. Their union lasted until Edrie's death in 2007.

He worked at Fullerton Lumberyard in Paynesville and also worked as a trucker for Raymond Bros. Truckline, delivering to Minnesota and Wisconsin.

He was well known for his work as a funeral assistant since the 1940s, having assisted at Dunton Funeral Home, Anderson Mortuary, and Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Virgil is survived by his many nieces and nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edrie; brothers, Raymond and Ellsworth; and sisters, Violet Miller and Evelyn Hunt.


George Majchazak, 85, New London
George Majchazak, 85, of New London died on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Our Lady of Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. As his last act of kindness, George's body was donated to the University of Minnesota Medical School. A burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Cemetery in Spicer at a later date.

George Raymond Majchazak was born on April 21, 1923, to Joseph and Veronica (Jezerski) Majchazak in Duluth.

After his schooling, he entered the U.S. Air Force, serving his country during WWII.

He married Rose Dey. Two daughters and three sons were born to this union. They made their home in Minneapolis, where George worked for the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport as a police officer.

On Jan. 18, 1975, George was united in marriage to Lorraine Brackett. They lived in Paynesville, Hawick, and New London, where they enjoyed retirement together and George did re-upholstery.

George is survived by his wife, Lorraine of New London; children, Teri (Dean) Anderson of Asheville, N.C., Nandra (Bruce) Looman of Paynesville, John (Barbara) Majchrzak of Lakeville, and James (Kelly) Majchrzak of Litchfield; step-daughter, Elizabeth (Jerry) Dawson of Arizona; a daughter-in-law; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph; a granddaughter; one brother; and three sisters.


Jerry Burr, 68, Paynesville
Jerry W. Burr, 68, of Paynesville died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at his home.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 14, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the Paynesville Cemetery with military honors.

Jerry Warren Burr was born on May 8, 1940, to Gerald and Iva (Brossard) Burr in Paynesville. He grew up in Paynesville. He was baptized in 1947 at the EUB Church in Paynesville and confirmed in 1956 at the First Methodist Church in Paynesville. He graduated from Paynesville High School in 1958.

He enlisted in the Army and served in the 82nd Airborne until 1960.

On Nov. 18, 1960, Jerry married Jane Revier at the Paynesville Methodist Church. A son and daughter were born to this union. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Paynesville.

In 1965, Jerry purchased the Jack and Jill grocery store, which he owned and operated until 1998, when he sold the business to his son, Joel. He continued to work part-time for several years and recently kept busy cleaning at the Lakes Area Laundromat.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Joel (Delane) of Paynesville and Jodi (Curt) Mottinger of Willmar; three grandchildren; sister, Linda Jensen of Eden Valley; brother, Kevin of Cold Spring; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.


Bonnie Hansen, 46, Paynesville
Bonnie Hansen, 46, of Paynesville died on Friday, Nov. 7, at the St. Cloud Hospital after a three-year battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 10, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Bonnie Hansen was born on Jan. 26, 1962, to Ray and Pat (Muske) Koglin in Paynesville. She married Mel Hansen on May 3, 1986, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville.

Bonnie was a dedicated employee of the Good Samaritan Home and later of the Paynesville Area Health Care System for a total of over 25 years.

She is survived by her husband, Mel; children, Trent and Chelsey of Paynesville; her mother, Pat Koglin of Paynesville; siblings, Denise Rien, Michele Mohr, and Kevin Koglin, all of Paynesville; mother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray, and her father-in-law.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.


Richard Houske, 90, Paynesville
Richard "Frank" Houske, 90, of Paynesville and formerly of Halstad, died on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Paynesville Area Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Burial was in Halstad Cemetery in Halstad.

Richard Franklin Houske was born on July 31, 1918, to Richard and Elsie (Carlyle) Houske on the family farm near Halstad. He was baptized and confirmed at Halstad Lutheran Church. Frank rode his horse to school in Halstad, graduating in 1937.

Following graduation, Frank worked for Hastad Engineering until he went into the Army in 1942. He was assigned to the 15th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group as a surveyor. Frank participated in battles and campaigns in the Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea, and the Philippines. He received decorations and citations for the American Theater, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged on Dec. 30, 1945, and returned to work at Hastad Engineering.

Frank eloped with Elaine Nelson on Feb. 18, 1950, to Minneapolis, and they made their home in Halstad.

Frank worked at Hastad Engineering for 32 years and at Red River Valley REA for 10 years, retiring at age 70.

He and Elaine moved to Paynesville in 2001 to be closer to family.

Frank is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Rick (Gale) Houske of Willmar and Ann (Randy) Jacklitch of Paynesville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.


Kathleen Everson, 65, Paynesville
Kathleen "Kathi" Everson, 65, of Paynesville died on Saturday, Nov. 8, at her home after struggling with cancer.

Funeral services will be private.

Kathi Everson was born on July 16, 1943, to Clarence and Bernice (Person) Kelley in Litchfield. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Hawick and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. She graduated from Atwater High School in 1961.

Kathi married Vernon L. Everson on June 15, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hawick.

Kathi is survived by her husband, Vern of Paynesville; children, Shelli (Gene) Bast of Paynesville, Shawn of Paynesville, and Angie (Greg) Pelkey of Eden Valley; seven grandchildren; and brother, Craig Kelley of Atwater.

She was preceded in death by her parents.


Kenneth Scheierl, 69, Amery, Wis.
Kenneth Scheierl, 69, of Amery, Wis., died on Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Amery Regional Medical Center after a battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amery. Burial was at the Amery Cemetery.

Kenneth George Scheierl was born on Oct. 15, 1939, to George and Florence Scheierl in Paynesville. He grew up in Paynesville and graduated from Paynesville High School.

On Oct. 27, 1962, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Strub. Six children were born to this union. They lived in Paynesville, where he farmed for a period of time before becoming a field rep for Associated Milk Producers.

They moved to Mora, Minn., before moving to Amery, Wis. in 1982.

He was diagnosed with cancer this past December.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Kenneth Jr., Mike (Sherri), JoAnn (Scott) Holt, Laurie (Kris) Harris, Kristine Scheierl, and Theresa (Tom) Dean; ten grandchildren; brother, Daniel; sisters, Margaret (James) Neirengarten, Donna (Allan) Dufner, and Doris (Gerald) Flint; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


Doris Johnsen, 70, Libertyville, Ill.
Doris Johnsen, 70, of Libertyville, Ill., died on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 3, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee, Ill.

Doris Johnsen (Anderson) was born on March 18, 1938, in Sleepy Eye. She was raised on a farm with her four siblings.

She graduated from Paynesville High School in 1956.

She is survived by her children, Lori Pasenelli, Lynn (Vincent) Draddy, Ken (Maria) Johnsen, and Joni Johnsen; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Lowell, and sister, Dee.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association in Chicago.


Patricia Richter, 68, Roscoe
Patricia Richter, 68, of Roscoe, died on Friday, Oct. 31, at her home following a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m., at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Patricia "Trish" Richter was born in a log cabin on Harris Lake, north of Nevis, Minn., to Harley and Hilda (Anderson) Harris. She was raised in Nevis and attended school there, graduating as valedictorian of the Class of 1958.

Trish married Nate Nelson in 1958. They had four children and later divorced.

She married Theodore Richter in 1979.

Trish worked at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. After retiring from the VA, Trish and Ted managed several apartment complexes. She also did hospice work, worked in group homes, and previously served as the city clerk in Roscoe.

Trish is survived by her husband, Ted of Roscoe; daughters, Audrie Lemke (Donnie Williams) of San Diego, Calif. and April (Donnie) Albrecht of Roscoe; step-children, Rhonda (David) Breitzman of Loyal, Wis., Sharla (Duane) Dufner of Watkins, Sandy (Duane) Hanson of Waite Park, Brenda (Doug) Hillskotter of Weyauwega, Wis., Sonja (Don) Mackedanz of Roscoe, Theresa (Mathew) Wagner of Atwater, and Michael Richter (Amy Gordon) of Crosby; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, James (Celia) Harris of Pillager; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Dawn Cassandra "Casey," Jennifer Callahan, and Eric James Nelson; and brothers, Harold and Jess Harris.
