Florence Koehn, 88, Paynesville Florence Koehn, 88, of Paynesville died on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Mound. A private burial was in the Mound Union Cemetery. Florence Koehn was born on Jan. 9, 1919, to Floyd and Arta (Olson) Bailey in Minneapolis. She married Raymond Koehn on Aug. 30, 1940, at Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church in Minneapolis. The couple lived in Minneapolis and in Mound. After retirement, they moved to Manhattan Beach on Trout Lake north of Brainerd and later at the Good Samaritan Apartments in Brainerd. They moved to Paynesville in October 2007. She is survived by her husband, Raymond of Paynesville; children, Judy Elftmann of Brooklyn Center and Reverend Ric (Barb) of Paynesville; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; Floyd and Arta, a son-in-law; and a grandson. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. James Catholic Church in Jacobs Prairie. Burial was in the parish cemetery .
Carl was born on Aug. 26, 1931, to Albert and Appolonia (Schmitt) Mueller in St. Joseph Township.
He married Ruth Brinker on Nov. 27, 1956, in St. James Catholic Church in Jacobs Prairie. This union lasted until her death in 1982.
Carl is survived by his children, Jane (Kevin) Zimmermann of Lamberton, Doug of Cold Spring, Jacki (Terry) Mead of Sauk Centre, Greg (Terry) of Jacobs Prairie, Karla Stransky of Paynesville, Glenn (Jackie) of Cold Spring, Keith of Jacobs Prairie, and Jennifer (Rick) Mix of St. Joseph; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Eugene (Dora) of Watkins and Peter (Jean) of White Bear Lake; and sisters, Isabelle (Joe) Zimmer of St. Joseph and Alice (Ray) Leyendecker of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents; son, Jeff in 1997; one grandchild; and siblings, Ervin, Marcellus, Arnold, and Lucille (Shoenfelder) Henricksen.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Susan Leukam was born on Feb. 7, 1956, in Sauk Centre to John and Lucille (Gysberg) Schaefer. She grew up on a farm near Spring Hill and later moved with her family to a farm east of Belgrade.
She attended Belgrade High School, where she graduated in 1974.
She married Don Leukam on Sept. 30, 1978, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. One daughter and one son were born to this union.
They made their home south of Belgrade, where Sue ran a cleaning business out of her home. She also worked for Rice Hospital in Willmar for the last three years and most recently worked in the health information service department.
She is survived by her husband, Don; children, Tracy (Turner) Fixen of Fargo, N.D. and Robbie Leukam of St. Cloud; brothers, John Schaefer of Las Vegas, Nev., Tom Schaefer of Willmar, and Mark Schaefer of Sauk Centre; and sisters, Mary (Dave) Schmitz of Belgrade and Patty (Steve) Weiner of Milbank, S.D.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and many aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 19, in Richfield.
Ruby Stephens was born on July 6, 1924, in Pennock.
She grew up in Paynesville and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1943. Ruby also worked in Paynesville.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was private.
Vern Johnson was born on Nov. 17, 1916, to Ole and Anna (Larson) Johnson in Benson.
He married Rita Free on July 18, 1940, at the Assembly of God Church in St. Cloud. Their union lasted until her death in 1994.
Vern owned and operated Vern Johnson Motors in Paynesville since 1950.
He is survived by his son, Dick (Carol) of Paynesville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; and sister, Marcella Anderson.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. Burial was in the Eden Lake Cemetery.
Virgil Olson was born on June 18, 1925, to Lawrence and Agnes (Anderson) Olson on the family farm in Danielson Township.
He grew up on the family farm where he attended country school for his primary education and later graduated from Litchfield High School. After his graduation, Virgil entered the United States Army where he served in the Pacific Campaign.
After his service, he returned home and was united in marriage to Mary Hanson on Feb. 14, 1947, at the First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union.
The family farmed near Cosmos for 11 years before Virgil accepted a job with Barton Contracting, where he drove truck for road construction projects.
In 1964, the family moved to Paynesville. Virgil drove truck until 1987, when he retired.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Mary; children, David (Diane) of Alexandria and Bradley (Linda) of St. Michael; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a niece, a nephew, and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Agnes Olson; daughter, Sue Ann Olson; and sister, Eunice Petersen.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Steven was born on Jan. 12, 1954, in Waterloo, Iowa to Everett and Ida (Kersten) Konrardy. He was a personal care provider working for Tim Wilbur for many years.
He has been a resident of Sauk Rapids for the past 12 years. Prior to that, he lived in the St. Paul area.
His survivors include his mother, Ida of Burnsville; brother, Dave of St. Louis Park; and special friend, Marge Melby of Paynesville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Everett.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Shawn Leyendecker was born on April 20, 1986, in Cold Spring to Timothy and Michelle (Wolf) Leyendecker.
Survivors include his parents, Tim and Shelly; sister, Tasha of Cold Spring; grandparents, Matt and Marie Leyendecker of Paynesville, and Marcy Wolf of Willmar; great-grandmother, Betty Wolf of Cold Spring; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ambrose Wolf.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Anna. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Arban.
Marie Schmit was born on Oct. 5, 1927, in St. Martin to Matthew and Erma (Winter) Doll. She grew up in St. Martin and Spring Hill.
She married Alfred Schmit on June 6, 1950, in Spring Hill. The couple moved to St. Cloud where they lived until 1960. They moved to their farm outside of Holdingford in 1960.
Marie moved to the St. Anna area after Alfred died in 1973.
Marie worked as a cook for the monks at the St. John's Monastery dining room from 1965 until she retired in 1992.
Marie is survived by her children, Ernie (Lois) of Holdingford, Larry (Lenore) of Holdingford, Jane Schmit of Bloomington, Betty (Terry) Olson of Rockville, Gerald (Terri) of Avon, Ralph (Laura) of St. Joseph, and Ron of St. Anna; brothers, Marvin (Mary) Kunstleben of Paynesville, Leo Kunstleben of Paynesville, and Melvin (Ronny) Kunstleben of Roscoe; sisters, Loretta Christman of Paynesville and Rose Mary Isaak of St. Paul; and 14 grandchildren.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred in 1973; and brothers, Othmar and Eugene Doll.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Paynesville. Shirley was born on June 2, 1936, in Sauk Centre to Albin and Vera (Neal) Eckberg. She married Clarence Sand on May 6, 1954. She was a nurse's aid at the Paynesville Hospital for over 20 years. She also worked as a physical therapy assistant at the Sauk Centre Hospital for over 10 years. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Scott) Mertesdorf of Belgrade, Sandra (Dennis) Stanger of St. Martin, and Shelly (Richard) Lecher of Belgrade; four grandchildren; and sister, Betty Schaeffer of Sauk Centre. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; son, Timothy in 1968; brother, Robert Eckberg; and sister, Jane Eckberg.
