Johnson Funeral Home Marjorie Bennett
Marjorie M. Bennett, 82, of Paynesville, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the Paynesville Area Hospital.

Memorial services will be on Friday, May 31, at 1 p.m. at Crystal Hills Assembly in Paynesville.

Marjorie was born May 25, 1919, in Isle, Minn., to Arthur and Ingeborg (Clemensen) Christiansen. She married Glenn Bennett on Dec. 24, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa. She and her husband owned and operated a fishing resort on Dry Berry Lake in Sioux Narrows, Ontario. They retired and moved to Paynesville in 1973 and purchased the Beach Side Trailer Park on Lake Koronis.

She was a creative woman who wrote a book as a wife of a resort owner. She was past Worthy Matron of the Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Glenn of Paynesville; two daughters, Sharon Bronn of Mounds View, and Juhl (John) Ganzer of New Brighton; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Norman (Eleanor) Christiansen of Fort Collins, Colo. and Nymer (Pat) Christiansen of Erie, Penn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

DeWayne Boie
DeWayne H. Boie, 67, of Paynesville, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the Koronis Manor.

Funeral services were on Wednesday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Paynesville. Rev. Ric Koehn officiated. Burial was in the Paynesville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Paynesville American Legion.

DeWayne was born July 16, 1934, in Belgrade to Edward and Amy (Gunderson) Boie. He lived in Paynesville most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army, and was employed as a truck driver for Fingerhut for almost 30 years.

He is survived by his children, Nancy Morrison of Atwater, Allen (Pam Urbanski) Boie of Paynesville, Chris (Angela) Boie of White Bluff, Tenn., and Melissa Boie of Baltimore, Maryland; eight grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Betty Peterson of Dassel, Donna Hageman of Roscoe, Dale Boie of Walker, Clifford Boie of Paynesville, Diane Glenz of Howard Lake, and Corrine Graf of Paynesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Michael on Aug. 2, 1987; two brothers, Jerry Boie and Glenn Boie; and two infant brothers.

Raymond Hageman
Ray Hageman

Raymond F. Hageman, 76, of Roscoe, died on Monday, May 20, 2002, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe. The Rev. Leo Leisen officiated. Burial was in the Parish Cemetery with military honors provided by the Paynesville American Legion.

Raymond was born April 27, 1926, in Roscoe to Benedict and Mary (Niewind) Hageman. He married Donna Boie on Aug. 3, 1953, in Paynesville. He lived in Roscoe all of his life.

He was employed by Flint Trucking for about 40 years, and drove school bus for Paynesville Transfer for ten years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946, serving in the chemical engineering and quartermaster units in Korea, on Okinawa Island, and in the Pacific Theatre. He drove straight and light duty trucks and jeeps, hauled supplies, equipment and military personnel, made minor emergency repairs using auto mechanics, hand tools, and tire changing equipment.

He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe and the Paynesville American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Roscoe; three sons, Dennis, Rodney (Lona Kissinger and Crystal), and Bradley, all of Roscoe; and sisters, Lucille (Gregor) Flint of Roscoe, Stella Gruber of Regal, and Cyrilla Hageman, also of Roscoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Viola Hormann.

Frederick Leuer
Frederick Leuer Frederick J. Leuer, 93, of Paynesville, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Washburne Court in Paynesville.

Funeral services were at 12 noon Tuesday, May 28, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville.

Fred was born July 16, 1908, in Wayzata, Minn., to Carl and Katherine (Hertzig) Leuer. He married Clara Merchant on Nov. 6, 1934, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Medicine Lake. He farmed all of his life. He also owned and operated a trucking company in which he hauled cattle, milk, and gravel at various stages in his life.

He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Knights of Columbus Council 3820, and a former member of the Teamsters Union. Fred was an avid hunter, fisher, and snowmobiler.

Surviving Fred are his wife, Clara of Paynesville; children, George (Virginia) of Pueblo, Colo., Paul (Jane) of Savage, Marilyn (Rod) Johnson of Ely, and Judy (Ken) Ramthun of Paynesville; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Roehl of Wayzata; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers John, George and Henry.

Clifford Opitz
A memorial mass for Clifford Opitz, 80, of Alexandria, was held on Thursday, May 23, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria. Father Al Ludwig officiated. Inurnment was in St. Mary's Mausoleum.

Cliff was born on Dec. 8, 1921, to John and Ida (Hagen) Opitz in Kenmare, N.D. He attended grade school in Elmdale Township, rural Kenmare, and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1940. He was engaged in farming and was employed at the Farmers Union Oil Co. in Kenmare. He married Irene Frank in 1944.

He was the manager of Farmers Union Oil companies in Oberon, N.D., Paynesville from 1954 to 1961, and Mankato. He was also a grain handling representative for Cenex, worked in the home office in South St. Paul, and was a field representative, retiring from Cenex in 1983.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Elks and Eagles clubs. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; daughter, Devon (Mike) Zarling of Farimont, Minn.; son, Dana of Kasota, Minn.; three grandsons; two brothers; a sister; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Alice Fisher
Alice Fisher, 89, of Welcome, Minn., died on Tuesday evening, May 14, 2002, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Rev. Eugene Anderson officiated. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.

Alice was born Oct. 6, 1912, to Dietrich and Martha (Linnemeyer) Laue in Fairmont Township, Martin County, Minneosta. She attended school at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert. Alice then did housekeeping for people in Fairmont. On June 20, 1937, she was united in marriage to Roy Fisher at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert.

: After their marriage, they farmed in the Armstrong, Iowa, area until purchasing a resort in 1959 near Eden Valley. They operated Fisher's Resort until selling it in 1975. In 1977, they moved to Welcome. Since Jan. 25, 2001, Alice has been a resident of the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. She was also a member of the Welcome Senior Citizens and belonged to several social clubs in the Armstrong, Fairmont, and Welcome areas. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing, and socializing with family and friends.

Alice is survived by her son, Marlin Fisher of Paynesville; two grandchildren; a brother, lrvin (Dorothy) Laue of Fairmont; a brother-in-law, Theodore Meyer of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Erma Laue of Fairmont; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy, on Nov. 14, 1979; brother, Werner Laue; and sisters, Elna Schultze and Lorena Maschoff.

Wesley Boehl
Wesley Boehl Wesley Henry Boehl, 70, of Paynesville, died on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Paynesville Area Hospital.

Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Reverend Richard Koehn officiated. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville made the arrangements.

Wesley, the son of Erwin and Viola (Donath) Boehl, was born on Nov. 19, 1931, in Paynesville. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Paynesville and was a current member of the Grace United Methodist. He grew up in the Paynesville area and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army in Germany from 1953-1955. He was a member of the Paynesville American Legion Post 271. On Oct. 12, 1968, he was united in marriage to Betty Vogelpohl. They later divorced.

Wesley and his father owned Boehl Construction and they built many churches, hospitals, banks, and schools in the Paynesville area. He later worked for Lunda Bridge Construction. He loved working with concrete and wood. In later years, he enjoyed driving around Paynesville inspecting all the new construction.

Surviving Wesley is his son, Charles of California; his sister, Marilyn (Roger) Nilson of Annandale; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Florence Jensen.
