Ardyce Peterson, 89, Paynesville Ardyce Peterson, 89, of Paynesville died on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Alden Estates in Barrington, Ill. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m., at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Paynesville Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Paynesville Lutheran Church and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Ardyce L. Peterson was born on Feb. 20, 1919, to Peter and Mathilda (Winge) Lund in Madison, Minn. She graduated from Madison High School in 1937. Ardyce married Lloyd H. Peterson, her high school classmate, on March 22,1942. She attended two years of college at the University of Minnesota. After caring for Lloyd's parents during his final years of college, Ardyce supported her new husband, who was a Marine Corps officer, living both in Washington, D.C., and California while Lloyd was stationed in Hawaii. Upon completion of Lloyd's military service, Ardyce and Lloyd started their family and professional career. They moved to Paynesville in 1948 and started a successful turkey production business. Ardyce is survived by her children, Nancy (Dan) Boe of Barrington, Ill., Steve (Mary Wilkens) Peterson of Golden Valley, and Mary Peterson of Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents; sisters, Helen, Pearl, and Myrtle; brothers, Cliff, Sam, Orville, and Clint; and a grandson. Memorials are suggested to Paynesville Lutheran Church.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 2, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery.
Frieda (Heitke) Zurn was born on Aug. 17, 1912, to Gustav and Clara (Weber) Heitke in a log cabin on the family farm in Zion Township. She attended District 139 rural school and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1931.
She graduated from the Eitel Hospital Nursing School in Minneapolis and became a registered nurse in 1934. She was a private duty nurse before the days of intensive care units.
She was later employed as an industrial nurse for Minneapolis Moline in Hopkins.
Frieda married Arthur Zurn in 1955. They divorced in 1981.
Frieda is survived by her sister, Pearl Heitke of Paynesville; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Lydia Heitke; brothers, Herman, Harry, Roy, and Arnold; and sisters, Helen and Marian Houk.
Memorials are preferred.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Paynesville. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Vivian E. Jacobson was born on Oct. 4, 1921, to Albin and Nellie (Olson) Bjork in Dovre Township. She was raised in rural Willmar, where she attended District 76 Country School. She was baptized and confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.
Vivian married Donald Jacobson on Sept. 18, 1943, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Five daughters and one son were born to this union.
The family made their home in rural Paynesville where they farmed. In the early 1950s, they moved into Paynesville. Their union lasted until Donald's death on Oct. 30, 1981. They shared 43 years of marriage.
For many years, Vivian ran a day care for local families.
Vivian is survived by her children, Valynn (Dwayne) Putzke of Winthrop, Wash., Faye (John) Hartert of Paynesville, Carol Bras of North Pole, Alaska, Ruth Almos of Clearwater, Fla., Janice (Larry) Mathison of Paynesville, and Dave (Barb) Jacobson of Paynesville; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Ione Rennecker of Kula, Hawaii; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents; three brothers; seven sisters; and a son-in-law.
Vivian Jacobson, 87, of Paynesville died on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Paynesville. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Nick Heinen was born on Nov. 26, 1911, to Hubert and Margaret (Burg) Heinen in St. Martin Township.
He farmed northwest of St. Martin until his retirement at age 80.
Nick is survived by his 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, two brothers, one niece, and three nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 19, at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Ada Schlick was born on February 9, 1912, to Fred and Anna (Tieskoetter) Tekippe in Fort Atkinson, Iowa.
After working as a legal secretary in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she married Edwin Schlick in May of 1944, and moved to the Schlick farm in St. Martin.
Edwin died in a farm accident in May 1971.
Ada married Henry Schlick on Dec. 23, 1974. They shared 33 happy years of marriage.
Ada is survived by her husband, Henry of the Koronis Manor; children, Jim (Sharon) of St. Cloud, Joe (Mary Jo) of St. Martin, John (Loretta) of Willmar, and Anne (Gary) Lauer of Hugo; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; first husband, Edwin Schlick; and a grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Eden Valley.
Clara M. Clark was born on May 17, 1921, to Clyde and Grace (Straight) in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
She married Harold Clark on July 22, 1939, in Eden Valley. Their union lasted until Harold's death on Jan. 25, 2000.
Clara was employed at Fingerhut in St. Cloud from 1963 until her retirement in 1977.
Clara is survived by her children, Brenda (Tom) Neal of Emerson, Manitoba, Canada, Leslie (Judy) Clark of Eden Valley, Sandra (John) Christianson of Blaine, and Norma Jean (Jim) Hiltner of Eden Valley; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Vaughn Clark; and brothers and sisters, Ethel, Harper, Aubrey, Barton, Elsie, Helen, John, and Howard.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m., at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Paynesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 4-8 p.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
Jennifer Lynn Bergstrom was born on Nov. 4, 1975, to John and Julie (Gunter) Bergstrom in Missoula, Mont. The family moved to Paynesville when Jennifer was young.
She attended Paynesville Elementary School and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1994.
After high school, she attended and graduated from the Model College of Hair Design.
On July 18, 1997, she gave birth to her pride and joy, Haley Lynn Thompson, also the daughter of John Thompson.
Jennifer worked as a hair stylist at Great Looks and at Beyond Basic in Paynesville.
Jennifer is survived by her daughter, Haley of Paynesville; parents, John and Julie Bergstrom of Paynesville; brothers, Justin (Lara) Bergstrom of Henning and Joe (Jill) Bergstrom of Sartell; a grandfather; and two nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers; a grandfather; and an aunt.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 13, at Paynesville Evangelical Free Church. Inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Fergus Falls at a later date.
Lois Pearl Westvig-Moltumyr was born on May 15, 1916, to Charles and Bertha (Baldry) McFarlane in Saskatchewan, Canada. Her family moved to Aitkin, Minn., when she was a child.
Lois grew up in Aitkin and graduated from Aitkin High School.
She met Sigvald Richard Westvig at an Assembly of God Church revival. They were united in marriage on Nov. 3, 1934. Two girls and five boys were born to this union.
The family made their home in Palisade, where they farmed until 1964.
They then moved to Fergus Falls and bought a Dairy Queen. The couple had shared 33 years of marriage until Sigvald's death in 1967. Lois continued to run the Dairy Queen until their son, Marvin, bought it in 1969.
Lois then moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she worked for Stonecraft Ministries.
In 1978, she married Osborne Moltumyr. They lived in Wolverton, Minn., for five years and then moved to Moorhead. Their 19-year union lasted until Osborne's death in 1997.
After Osborne's death, Lois moved to Eden Prairie. In 2004, she moved to Washburne Court in Paynesville, where she lived until recently when she moved into the Koronis Manor.
Lois is survived by her children, Kenneth (Beulah) Westvig of Aitkin, Marvin Westvig of Fergus Falls, Alice (Bill) Anderson of Eau Claire, Wis., Warren (Sue) Westvig of Coon Rapids, Dale (Greta) Westvig of Chanhassen; a daughter-in-law; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Sigvald and Osburne; son, Robert Westvig of Paynesville; daughter, Karen Blume; a daughter-in-law; one grandson; one great-grandson; and brothers, Alvin and Orville McFarlane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 15, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Jean Kirchner was born on Nov. 26, 1915, to Walter and Anna (Johnson) Waltzing in Laporte, Minn.
Jean had two sons from her first marriage, Dwayne and Michael.
Survivors include her conservator and friend, Jan Zumwalde; other friends; and the staff at Koronis Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Anselm Kirchner.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. Entombment was in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.
Elmer J. Eichers was born on April 7, 1918, to Leo and Hedwig (Leither) Eichers in Cold Spring.
He married Georgina Thielmann on Sept. 2, 1940, at St. Boniface Church in Cold Spring. He and Georgina shared 68 years of marriage.
He worked for a few years at the Cold Spring Granite Company and farmed for 17 years before the Lord "helped" him realize he wasn't a farmer. He was an insurance representative for RAM for 25 years and for Wakefield Farmers Mutual Insurance Company.
Elmer was ordained as a permanent deacon on June 21, 1985. During his 17 years as a deacon, he took great joy in the many baptisms and weddings he performed and visiting with shut-ins in the area.
He is survived by his wife, Georgina; children, Dorothy (Ed) Peine of Princeton, Janet (Frank) Neu of Rockville, Marion (Daniel) Mumm of Cold Spring, Catherine (Terry) Lenz of Nevis, Michael (Carol) of Cold Spring, David (Dots) of Cold Spring, Robert (Jan) of Valley Center, Calif., Arthur (Linda) of Spring Hill, Rita (Mick) Garding of Paynesville, Ralph (Diane) of Cold Spring, Mary Beth (Dale) Woodrow of Aitkin, and Joseph; 38 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Virgil Eichers of Sauk Rapids, Mary Gertken of Cold Spring, Daniel Eichers of Avon, and Florence Rausch of Avon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph; and siblings, Harold, Leone Theisen, and Ted.
Memorials are preferred to the St. Boniface School Endowment Fund.
Elmyra Schoenhoff was born on Sept. 2, 1912, to William and Rhoda Gruetzmacher in Lake Henry.
She lived in Mesa, Ariz., with her husband, Val Schoenhoff.
Elmyra is survived by her brother, Calvin Gruetzmacher, of Pasadena, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Val; parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Tenn.
Ken spent summers on Lake Koronis.
He was a World War II veteran, serving on the cleanup crew at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
Ken was a gifted engineer and inventor, owning and running a successful machine shop business for over 25 years, which he started at age 47. He held the patents on several innovative inventions.
Ken and his wife, Harriet, shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
Ken is survived by his son, Jon Vezner; sister, Jean Boyd; a daughter-in-law; caregivers and friends; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ken Vezner Fund at North House Folk School in Grand Marais, Minn.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 1, at the Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh, NY. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.
Mark Stanley Thompson was born on Oct. 19, 1951, to Dr. Ruben and Maxine Thompson in Glencoe, Minn.
He graduated from Paynesville High School in 1969.
He graduated from Montana State University with a master's degree in international marketing and from Thunderbird Graduate School with a master's degree in international marketing.
Mark was a member of the Coffee Sugar Cocoa Exchange (NYBOT) at the World Trade Center, where he worked until Sept. 11, 2001. He then worked for Northwest Mutual as a financial planner until disability forced his retirement.
Mark is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Green) of Newburgh; sons, Alexander, Adam, and Peter; stepdaughter, Tessa (Peter) Sallemi; stepson, Benjamin (Carrie); four grandchildren; brothers, Alex of Fort Collins, Colo., Max of Maple Grove, Minn., and Pat of Annandale; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred as a donation to a blood bank.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
Lila Westman was born on Sept. 16, 1932, to Benjamin and Hattie (Zerbis) Liestman in Paynesville.
Lila is survived by her sons, Dan (Cheryl Ennis) Peterson of Burnsville and David Peterson of Minneapolis; daughters, Joyce Carlson of Columbia Heights, Wendy (Brian) Holmes of Grapevine, Texas, Katherine Michalik of Plymouth, and Tammy Westman of Crosby; brothers, Art Liestman of Paynesville and David (Bonnie) Liestman of Montana; sisters, Evangiline Gunderson of Eureka, Calif., Donna Warner of Paynesville, and Joann (George) Wicklund of Spicer; former husband, Ron Westman; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ray Peterson; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Burial was in the Knollwood Memorial Gardens in Fergus Falls.
Karin (Haagenson) Johnson was born on Oct. 11, 1955, to Ruby and Russell Haagenson at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
She attended Madison Elementary School, Fergus Falls Junior High, and Fergus Falls Senior High School, graduating in 1974.
She attended Fergus Falls Community College and earned a medical secretary certificate in 1975.
Karin married Steve Johnson on Sept. 3, 1977, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Two daughters, Abby Joy and Kristina Beth, were born to this union. The couple shared 31 years of marriage.
Karin worked as a medical transcriptionist in the radiology department at Lake Region Healthcare for 33 years.
Karin's father, Russell Haagenson was from Paynesville.
Karin is survived by her husband, Steve; daughters, Abby of Detroit, Mich., and Tina of Minnetonka; mother, Ruby Haagenson of Fergus Falls; brother, Lynn Haagenson of Fergus Falls; sister, LuAnn Dehne of Brooklyn Park; mother-in-law and father-in-law; a brother-in-law; sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Haagenson, and her grandparents.
Ruth Braun was born to Louis and Anna (Bagley) of Regal.
She married Norbert Braun on Oct. 19, 1937, in Lake Henry. They farmed north of Regal until they moved to Florida in 1961.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Phyllis (Bobby) Scarbourgh of Lake Placid and Shirley Lacey of Lakeland, Fla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Gertgen of Kandiyohi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert; two brothers, Lester and Lawrence Bagley of Regal; and a son-in-law.
