Ian Pelton, 60, Paynesville Ian K. Pelton, 60, of Paynesville passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Paynesville Area Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Paynesville Lutheran Church. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Paynesville Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Ian Kent Pelton was born on June 29, 1953, to Edith and John Pelton in Fostoria, Ohio. A 1971 graduate of Fostoria High School, Ian attended Bowling Green State University. On June 18, 1977, he married the love of his life, Colleen Schwieger (Pelton), in a ceremony in her hometown of Fairfax, Minn. They spent more than 36 blissful years together, raising two daughters, Erin and Lindsey. For 30 years, Ian was a skilled cabinet maker at Willmar Wood Products. He was also a devoted and active member of the Paynesville community, directing various choirs, volunteering to support local arts initiatives and theater productions, and directing numerous community musicals. He sang in the Minnesota Center Chorale for many years and participated in numerous operettas under the sponsorship of the Quite Light Opera Company. Ian was also a founding member of the Paynesville Arts Council. He could often be found at the local auditorium, building sets and running the lights and sound for local arts initiatives. In 2013, he won the Minneapolis Aquatennial Commodore Award for his dedicated volunteerism and community service. Ian enjoyed traveling with his wife Colleen, especially to visit their daughter Lindsey in Chicago or their daughter Erin, in New York or Washington, DC. In recent years, he looked forward to their annual New Years celebration with the family in Puerto Rico, where Erin married her husband, Miguel Estien. They are expecting their first child in December. A voracious reader, Ian also enjoyed evening walks with Colleen and their dogs and weekly movie outings. In addition to his wife and daughters, Ian is survived by his sister, Constance Irvin (Bob) and a niece of Mentor, Ohio, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers or other memorials, donations may be made to the newly-established Ian Pelton Fund for the Arts at YouCaring.com or under Colleen Pelton's name at Bank of the West in Paynesville.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 30, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mary was born on March 21, 1957, to Sylvester and Theresia (Schmitz) Sand Sr. in St. Cloud.
Mary worked at Gold'N Plump for 30 years and retired in 2012.
Mary is survived by her sons, Bob Jr. and Brian; mother, Theresia Sand; siblings, Patricia Sand, Sylvester Sand Jr., Mark Sand, Peter Sand, and Lisa Lichte; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sylvester Sand Sr.
