James Weber, 70, Richmond James J. Weber, 70, of Richmond died on Tuesday, April 21, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 25, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Jim Weber was born on Oct. 19, 1938, to John "Marlin" and Dorothy (Ressemann) Weber in Munson Township. He married Jeanie Haehn on May 30, 1962, in St. Peter Church in St. Cloud. Jim served in the Army Reserves for six years. He worked for Smurfit-Stone Container in St. Cloud for 43 years, retiring in 2005. Jim is survived by his wife, Jeanie; son, Dan (Carol) Weber of Cold Spring; daughter, Mary (Randy) Rothstein; two grandchildren; sister, Jeanie (Charlie) Mackedanz of Paynesville; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 29, at 11 a.m., at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial will be in Paynesville Cemetery.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Florence Potter was born on Oct. 13, 1918, to Frank and Augusta (Wagner) Liestman in Eden Lake Township. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school in District #205.
She married George R. Potter on Aug. 8, 1942, in Rolla, Mo., while George was in the service. Their union lasted until George's death on April 17, 1999.
She was employed by Elmquist Dime Store, Stan's Maytag Store, Bolstad's Store, and Thompson Store, all in Paynesville.
She is survived by her brothers, Marvin of Tomah, Wis., and Delmar (Donna) of Princeton; and nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; sisters, Edna Schultz and Amanda Vadnais; and brothers, Lawrence, Norman, and Arlie.
Eldon Block was born in New Glarus, Wis., to Ben and Anna Block. He spent his early childhood at the family farm in Paynesville Township and later worked as a young adult at Herb and Elise Schultz's mink farm adjacent to Lake Koronis.
Eldon married Mary Eighner of Kandiyohi County in 1955, and they began raising a family on an acre of land bought from his parents.
He moved to the Twin Cities in 1965 and worked for Precision Sheet Metal and later for Modern Tool.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Michael (Lori) and Patrick; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Darrell; sisters, Delma and Janice; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Ronald.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 18, at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Kathryn Signora (Hovland) Lura was born on Sept. 2, 1921, to Sever and Eliza (Oswald) Hovland on their farm south of Lake Mills, Iowa.
Kathryn "Kay" graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1939. Kay continued her education at St. Olaf College and Cedar Falls Normal School (University of Northern Iowa) and enriched her life by taking courses at Winona State and Mankato State.
Kathryn taught at a one-room school in rural Winnebago County in Iowa prior to taking a secretarial job in Kansas City, Mo. She later taught sixth grade at Rake Elementary School in Rake, Iowa.
Kay was introduced by a mutual friend to DeLoss "De" Lura at a dance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. They married on Oct. 24, 1943, at the First Lutheran Church in Kansas City. This union was blessed with two sons and much love and laughter.
Kay and De owned businesses in Goodhue and Bricelyn, Minn., with their last move being to Paynesville in 1976.
Kay served as librarian for the Paynesville City Library and later for the Paynesville Branch of the Great River Regional Library System before retiring in 1994. She loved helping the library patrons, especially the children, hoping to impart to others her love of books and reading.
Kathryn is survived by her sons, Douglas (Kathy) of Paynesville and Paul (Carol) of Paynesville; two grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, DeLoss; parents, Sever and Eliza; brothers and sister, Palmer, Selmer, Orville C., and Gertrude Hanna; and infant siblings Orville M., Conrad, Edith, and Myrtle.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23, at the Daniel Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville. Burial will be in the Paynesville Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Cliff Nehring was born on Feb. 28, 1921, to Milton and Alice (Nelson) Nehring in Paynesville.
He served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre.
He married Dorothy L. Schultz in Excelsior, Minn. Cliff lived with Dorothy in Hopkins for most of his life. He worked as a carpenter until his retirement.
Cliff is survived by his sisters, Ruby O'Hair and Joyce (Archie) Magnuson; a sister-in-law and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; brother, Lloyd; and sister and brother-in-laws.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 17, at First Lutheran Church of Columbia Heights Chapel. Burial was in Nordland Lutheran Church cemetery in rural Paynesville.
Oliver is survived by his wife, Ruby; children, Karen (Robert) Dove, Oliver, Jr. (Marilyn), Virginia (Tony) Stumpf, Allen (Kathy), William, and Anne (Vince) Ryan; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, John Larsen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 15, at 11 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial will be in St. Louis Parish Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Ben Klaphake was born on Feb. 2, 1913, to Clemens and Frances (Kersting) Klaphake in New Munich. He grew up on the family farm and completed eight years of school.
After school, he continued to help his brothers take care of their farm.
He married Helen Bertram on Oct. 1, 1935, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill. They later divorced.
Ben farmed near Spring Hill until 1964, when he moved to Paynesville. He continued to help his son on the farm after his retirement.
Ben is survived by his children, Melvin of Melrose, Eldred (Phyllis) of Lake Henry, Roman (Nona) of Spring Hill, and Marilyn Klaphake of Sauk Centre; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joann; and brothers and sisters, Henry, Rose Herkenhoff, Alois, Freida Uphoff, Alphonse, Susanna, Leo, Alvina Altmann-Schulte, and Joseph.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m., at Paynesville Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis.
