Amy and Steve Bast

Date of Marriage: Sept. 11, 199

Place of Marriage: St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Henry

How did you meet?
teve was my brother's best friend, and we met through him. We were friends for many years before we began dating.

Who proposed and how?
Steve and I were shopping on my birthday, and he asked me to look at rings. On Valentine's weekend, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

How long were you engaged?
Nine months. We wanted a late summer or early fall wedding and did not want a long engagement, so we managed to get the planning done on time.

How large was your wedding?
525 people.

What food was served?
Chicken, ham, and all the trimmings.

What was the most memorable moment at your wedding?
Saying our vows in front of our family and friends.

Whose relatives, or friends, had the most fun at the wedding?
To mix things up, we had a dance off for the garter. If they wanted it, they had to dance for it. We had seven-year-olds to 70-year-olds strutting their stuff. Steve's cousin, a co-worker of mine, tried everything he could think of to win.

If you could travel back in time to your wedding day, what advice for maintaining a happy marriage would you give yourselves?
Plan quality family time but also make time for each other.
